Volleyball

The Under 16 squad of Andrew Beatty, James Bell, Jack Hunter, Joseph McClure, Stuart McCully, Aaron McFaul, Adam Ringland, Jack Ringland and Michael Wilson have been training hard this term and played their first Northern Ireland Schools Under-16 League matches in December.

In their first match they served well and showed good back-court coverage to beat Campbell College (B) by 2 sets to 0.  Their second match was against Campbell College (A), who had won the Northern Ireland Schools Under-14 Cup last season, they played exceptionally well and took the first set by 25 points to 23.  However, the greater experience of the Campbell College team showed and they took the next set by 25 points to 21 to set up a deciding set which they won by 15 points to 9.

The third match was against Carrickfergus Grammar.  Excellent serving saw them take an early lead and, despite Carrickfergus improving their service reception, Larne held out and comfortably won the first set by 25 points to 14.  Carrick started in a very determined manner in the second set and led until the Larne took the lead at 22-21.  The next few points were tense with both sides making errors and eventually Carrick won by 28 points to 26.  Larne made less errors in the deciding set and eventually won it by 15 points to 10 and hence won the match.

The team will have one league match remaining, against Dalriada on 7th February which will prepare them for the main volleyball competition, the Northern Ireland Schools Cup which is held in March.
