The 1st XI are a young squad this year with eight year 12’s and one year 11 in the regular team. They have shown promise and work exceptionally hard both at training and during matches. Although they have lost a number of Saturday fixtures they have gained their best results when in cup matches. We have used Saturday matches to focus on performance rather than results and this has paid divided ends as the season progresses; at times some excellent hockey has been displayed. During the Senior Schools Cup LGS 1st XI received a bye in the first round and beat Friends 2-1 in the second round. This was a very competitive evenly contested match. The Larne girls worked exceptionally hard being decisive and clinical on the attack with the defensive unit showing composure when under pressure. They meet Dalrida in the third round on Sat 17th Dec.

There are a number of talented individuals within the squad; Ruth Maguire and Ayeisha McFerran both representing Ulster U16 at the inter provincial tournament in October and currently being involved in Irish U16 trials. Captain and vice captain Kirsten McCully and Chloe McIlwaine must also be recognised and commended for the outstanding example they set, both on and off the pitch, and the standard of hockey they produce on a regular basis.

As always the 2nd XI team changed dramatically this season and although they have had a somewhat disappointing season so far, evidence of progress is apparent. Unfortunately the team were knocked in the 2nd round of the 2nd XI McDowell, however will now enter the shield competition.

The 3rd XI had a slow start to the season and the team was quite unsettled. However with a more consistent team throughout November and December and dedication towards training the 3rd XI have managed two wins and a draw in recent fixtures.

The 4thXI team is a young and relatively inexperienced in relation to senior school hockey with most players having stepped up from last years U14 A and B teams. They show great enthusiasm and a willingness to improve. With continued determination they hope to add a win to their record.

Both U14 teams are finding this a difficult season, with the A team yet to gain a win. This has not discouraged the girls who continue to turn out to training on a regular basis and try there best.

The U13A team are showing great potential and have proved this with their continuing improvement of Saturday morning results. Hopefully with hard work this group of players will continue to improve and develop their individual skills and team performances.  The U13B team enjoy their hockey, work well as a team and are a vital support network for the A’s.

Thanks must be extended to all staff who help with all levels of hockey throughout the week and on Saturday mornings. Without whom the activity would be impossible to maintain.
