Charities Committee

The charities committee has been very busy this year raising lots of money for various charities.  The Big Bash at Christmas was very successful and raised over £1000 for charity.  Our fashion Show earlier in the year was also a big hit raising over £1200 for the Royal Victoria Children's Hospital.

Our latest endeavour was to attempt to raise £1500 for Comic Relief and we has a week of activities dedicated to this cause running from 12th to 16th March 2007.  Every day in the lecture theatre we showed comedy DVD's at lunchtime and charged £1 entrance fee.  After a slow start we had 120 pupils attending the shows.

On Red Nose Day itself we had a "Wear it Red" day where all pupils came in non-uniform and wore at least one item of red clothing.  Even the staff got involved at a cost of £1 per person.  At break on Red Nose Day we had a "Red Sale" where everything from red jelly, strawberry milkshake and red laces to strawberry chews and cranberry juice were sold.  To finish the day we had a debate to decide the best comedy show ever.  Ryan Stewart in year 12 won the argument for the local show, Give My Head Peace.

Overall we had a really fun and worthwhile week.
